A TISKET A TASKET...

...Mo Willems in a basket!

My son's school is having their big
silent auction fundraiser this weekend
and each class has put together
a themed basket for the event.

P's class decided to make theirs all
kinds of Mo Willems themed!

And I just so happen to
know someone who
could help us with that!

MO!

He was sooper generous and gave us a
some window decals,
and a sooper exclusive not-quite-out-yet
Duckling plushie!

Oh... and this, too:

Add in a whole mess of books signed by Mo and
I'm pretty sure this basket will pull in at least
eleventy hundred thousand dollars--
enough to solve Los Angeles Unified School District's
money problems forever!

HOORAY!

Thanks, Mr. Willems!

SOOPER WARBURTON BROTHERS

I don't know what it is,
but my current sketchbook
is going
reeeeeeeeeeeeally
sloooooooooooow.

Actually, I DO know what it is.
I've been trying to finish up a
 sooper new
(and sooper secret)
 project
these last couple months
and that's taking up all my non-Fish Hooks time.

But I still try to get some sketchbook action when I can.
Fortunately, my wolf cubs are always eager to log in some
drawing time with Dad.

The latest theme?

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS!

K
(age 5)
 needed a little help getting
started drawing Luigi on a motorcycle:

P
(age 8)
needed no help
rockin' Yoshi:

P also found that one page simply
wasn't enough to contain
Mario's awesomeness:

Love this sketch of
Diddy Kong in his car by K:

But ya gotta go crazy for
P's Super Mario Brothers item collage:

Me?
I didn't do anything
nearly as cool as my boys did.

Hey...
why PLAY video games
when you can draw 'em
with your family!

WHATCHA SAY, TVA?!

So what's going on at Disney TV Animation?

Well...
Like...
EVERYTHING!

We had a mega-big all-staff meeting at the Burbank AMC movie theater
where we got to see got to see artwork, clips and even full episodes
of
EVERYTHING
that's going on at TVA
And we got to see it on the sooper giant huge big screen!

So what's going on?

Nothing.
Nada.
I can't tell you.

Or I'd have to kill you.
(and I can do it)

But, of course, there is SOME stuff that's common knowledge:

We got to watch the entire first episode of TRON: UPRISING!

Perhaps you heard that you can download the first episode
for all kinds of
FREE
over

Yeah.
The show looks like
eleventy billion bucks.
It's like a feature film on TV.
Director Charlie Bean and crew killed it!

We also got to see a full episode of this:

Created by Alex Hirsch,
who helped develop Fish Hooks and remains as
the voice of Clamantha,
GRAVITY FALLS
is a really fun comedy/mystery show.
Keep an eye out for it.
It's coming to Disney Channel before you know it.

We also got to see a lot of pilots
in various stages of development.

Stuff by Craig McCracken...
(POWERPUFF GIRLS, FOSTER'S HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS)

Matt Chapman...
(HOMESTAR RUNNER)

MOTORCITY by Chris P and the Titmouse Posse.
(the first episode is also FREE over HERE!)

etc
etc
etc
and
MOAR!

How inspiring to see so much amazing stuff
by so many amazing people.

Big ups to Disney for getting behind the creators
and making things happen!

Keep it locked on
Disney Channel
and
Disney XD!

Big stuff's goin' down!

SNEAKY ADULT BRINGS THE FAN ART!

As most of you know...
adults can be pretty sneaky.

They make you eat cauliflower so they don't have to.
They tell you it's bedtime when all the good shows come on.
And then they have a dance party while you're sleeping.

But sometimes their sneakiness
can TOTALLY
bring the
awesome.

Case in point,
a recent inquiry by an adult
regarding an order
to the mighty
included some KND
fan art his son had done.

Which is pretty cool.
(for an adult)

Check out KND operative
Scott's
sooper
triple
block
rockin'
drawings:

Uh huh.

Awesome.

Thanks for sending these,
sneaky adult.

And thanks for being such a
loyal KND operative
Scott!

OH HAI ORIGINAL HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON SKETCH!

I just found out something I didn't know:
The fact that I won this:

That's an original concept sketch from
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
by sooperstar character designer Andy Bialk.
(He's reeeeally good!)

And it's mine!
ALL MINE!

Apparently I won it at the
SUPPORT THE ADAMS
charity auction
(recapped over HERE)
but there was some kind of alien attack that caused
communication issues so I didn't find out I
won until now.

Can I get a

YEAH!!!

Yes.
Yes, I can.

RIP Buzz Potamkin and MCA

Right on the heels of my mentor Vincent Cafarelli passing away
comes the sad news that Buzz Potamkin
has moved on as well.

Buzz was,
of course,
the namesake of
Buzzco,
the company he started and later sold to
Mr. Cafarelli, Candy Kugel and Marilyn Kramer
and renamed Buzzco Associates.

The studio was famous for animating
the first, iconic MTV spots...

and the Berenstain Bears TV specials...

And the Hawaiian Punch commercials...

Buzz later made the move to LA where
he worked for Disney
and Hanna Barbera,
where he oversaw the What A Cartoon shorts program.

I only got to meet him once or twice,
but heard many stories via Vinnie and J.J. Sedelmaier,
who Buzz gave his first animation job to.

You can read more about Buzz and his career over HERE.

And while we're on the topic
of artists passing on,
I gotta shout a big RIP to Beastie Boy
Adam Yauch
aka MCA

His music has kept me company while
I've drawn, doodled, illustrated, animated, and designed
for as long as I can remember.

I never got to meet the man,
but there was a day when we
shot each other a
"YO"
as we skateboarded past one another
on the streets of NYC.

That kinda made my day.

Big ups to ya, MCA.

KND vs POWERPUFF GIRLS

The Kids Next Door as Powerpuff Girls...

And the Powerpuff Girls as Kids Next Door.

Any questions?

(and to whoever it is that drew these...)
(...you rule the universe!)
