It was only a matter of time before I tracked him down.
It just took a couple teeny tiny adjustments to my ROBLOMETER and POW-- There he was!
ERIC ROBLES! (creator of Nickelodeon's Fanboy and Chum Chum)
He thought he could enjoy a nice quiet lunch by himself. But nope. Nyet. No way.
I found him and we were gonna hang out whether he liked it or not.
And we had FUN (no matter what he says).
It was cool hearing about all the different places he's worked (The X's, Billy and Mandy, designing animatronic puppets, etc), how he got his show (through Frederator cartoons), and how if the planets hadn't aligned correctly he might have been writing tickets instead of cartoons (he studied law enforcement before getting into animation).
Fortunately for us, we have Fanboy and Chum Chum instead!
And I have a brand new drawing in my sketchbook:
SO rockin'. Thanks, Mr. Robles!
If you wanna learn more about Eric, check out this interview over HERE!
Okay... so the reason I didn't gorge myself on pizza and delicious baked goods at the Colfax Family Reading Night was because me and the fabulous Mrs. Warburton had other plans for our evening repast.
But WHAT could be so awesome as to make us skip pizza and cupcakes?!
ENTER THE AMBASSADOR!
That's right.
I'm talkin' about the Kommander of Kids Books... The Ayatollah of Read-n-Rolla... The former National Ambassador of Children's Books... The Stinky Cheese Man himself...
Since moving away from Brooklyn we don't get to see The Ambassador much anymore. So it was a sooper treat to have him all to ourselves and talk about all the important things like:
Life. Love. Books. and Spinach artichoke dip.
In fact, here's a picture of Jon trying to claim diplomatic immunity after selfishly taking the last scoop of dip.
And I'm buyin' every word of it. What a sap.
Mr. Scieszka is still on tour, so go to his website and check out if he's comin' to your town to help you party it down.
And go grab your copy of SPACEHEADZ, would ya? (you get sooper bonus points if you noticed that sooper powered illustrator/character designer/writer/etc etc Shane Prigmore illustrated the book!)
Last week was Family Reading Night at Colfax Elementary!
And since I didn't see many of you there... allow me tell you what you missed!
First, all the kids put on their bestest best jammies... grabbed their favorite stuffed animals... and went back to school at 5:30!
"WHAT?!" you say, "But that's DINNER TIME!"
Yup. DINNER TIME! We all got together on the playground and had a gihoogic pizza party! But it was hard to pay attention to the pizza since there was also a bake sale with some of the sooper yummiest treats in the history of forever.
After we ate ourselves silly... it was reading time. The kids could choose between 5 different rooms where different folks were reading different stories.
I rocked the Kindergarten to 2nd Grade room.
And obviously, I read 1000 TIMES NO! As well as the rough version of 1000 TIME WHY!
But just so you know... I don't just read books BY me. I made sure to read one with ME in it!
Ten thousand years ago when I used to herd cats-- I mean, smooth talk animation artists into donating artwork to the ASIFA-EAST USED ANIMATION ART AUCTION, I had the pleasure of meeting Howie Shia (who did the above piece). You've probably heard the epic tale of how we met but if not it's over HERE.
Anyway, we still keep in touch even though he lives in Canada and I live in LA. I know... Crazy, right? Canadians and Americans having civil communications... I'd say we're ushering in a new era of Canadian/American peace that politicians have been unable to dream of achieving for centuries.
Need an example? Hows about me coming home to find a package from Mr. Shia containing this book:
