Wow!
A lot of operatives
came to check out
the storyboard pages from
the first half of
Codename: Kids Next Door
There
were
Candy Pirates
Ice Cream Monsters
Clam Cannons
Giant Turnips
and
Hair-Eating Lice!
So let's check out what
part two
has in store for us,
shall we?
YES,
we
SHALL:

7B: Operation: LIZZIE
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Bob Suarez
First appearance of
LIZZIE DEVINE
Fun Fact:
Cartoon Network thought Lizzie looked
too mean and unlikable
so we had to redesign her.
Then I sat up late into the night redrawing
her through the whole board.
To this day Lizzie remains one of the
most polarizing characters of the show.
Fans either love her or sooper triple hate her.

8A: Operation: FLY
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Guy Moore
Fun Fact:
This was our first
"Art Show".
Each season we wanted to have
an episode that did something new and different,
like having an episode with absolutely no dialogue.
Great wordless script by Mr. Willems.
Brilliantly pulled off by Mr. Moore.

8B: Operation: POINT
Writer: Mr. Warburton
Storyboard: Tom Connor
Fun Fact:
The Cartoon Network standards department
had a LOT of notes regarding the
<ahem>
idea behind this episode.
_____________________________________________________
9A: Operation: CABLE-TV
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Maurice Fontenot
First appearance of
(and only)
Mr B.
Fun Fact:
Mr. Fontenot based the
cheesy song and dance on
The costumes he designed
are hilariously amazing!
_____________________________________________________
9B: Operation: CHAD
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Mike Wetterhahn
First appearance of
NUMBUH 274
(aka Chad Dickson)
Fun Fact:
Numbuh 274 was originally
supposed to just be a one-off
character but ended up getting written
into more and more episodes because
we needed someone above
Numbuh One.
Who knew he'd become such a fan favorite?
_____________________________________________________
10A: Operation: CAMP
Writer: Mr. Warburton
Storyboard: Kim Arndt
First appearance of
BRADLEY
(aka Numbuh 6)
and
CHESTER
Fun Fact:
In my original pitch there were some
evil Marshmallow Aliens involved.
As Head Writer of Wrongs,
Mr. Willems insisted we cut them because they were
confusing, stoopid and didn't work with the story.
Marshmallow Aliens
later became our codeword for
"Your idea is dumb and I do not like it"
_____________________________________________________
10B: Operation: TOMMY
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Bob Suarez
First appearance of
TOMMY
and
THE COMMON COLD
Fun Fact:
Due to ultra high levels of grossness,
this episode garnered a LOT of
negative reviews from fans online.
Then again, a lot of fans really liked it.
Go figure.
_____________________________________________________
11A: Operation: RAINBOWS
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Tom Connor/Matt Peters
First appearance of
MR. MOGUL
Fun Fact:
I've always been especially proud of the acronym for this episode:
R.A.I.N.B.O.W.S.
(Running Amok In Nature's Bounty Observing Wild Simians)
_____________________________________________________
11B: Operation: ZOO
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Bob Suarez
First appearance of
MRS. GOODWALL
Fun Fact:
Ever notice how a lot of KND villains have animal parts?
That was part of a larger story arc that
eventually fell by the wayside.
_____________________________________________________
12A: Operation: QUIET
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Guy Moore
First appearance of
The Global KND
Fun Fact:
Originally I had only thought of the KND
as their own little group.
But as the series progressed we knew
we needed to expand their universe!
Thus the
Global KND
was born!
_____________________________________________________
12B: Operation: PIANO
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Matt Peters
Fun Fact:
This image totally inspired is to make
Operation: HAMSTER.
I'm just not sure why it took us until season six!
_____________________________________________________
13A: Operation: GROW-UP
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Kim Arndt
First appearance of
FATHER
Fun Fact:
Our first 22 minute episode!
It was exciting to have all that time to tell a story
and to be able to take some time to
really feel Numbuh One's emotions
after he got turned into an adult.
_____________________________________________________
13B: Operation: GROW-UP
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Maurice Fontenot
Fun Fact:
I still giggle when Father,
covered in ice cream,
whimpers
"Need... my... sweater..."
_____________________________________________________
And that's all 25 episodes of season one!
And what a ride it was!
A new crew working on a new show,
all of us trying to create a fun, exciting new world!
(that wouldn't get cancelled after one season)
Some of those early episodes hold up great
and some look a little weak and dated.
But we had fun making them!
Keep it locked here
for
SEASON TWO!
Awesome-sauce...
ReplyDeleteIt's so amazing to see all these! :D
ReplyDeleteY'know, I DID notice the animal parts on many of the villains. I always wondered why that was!!! Will you ever reveal the story arc? :D I'm dying to know!
ReplyDelete~Numbuh 689
I really think Tommy Gilligan needs his own series one day since he was great in 'Operation: T.O.M.M.Y', don't know why it got negative reviews...
ReplyDeleteI rmember having a convo with a friend at recess about the animal parts on the villains!! we were confused! WHAT WAS IT SETTING UP??!?!?
