KND STORYBOARD PAGES (season two part 1)

We learned a lot
from making the
first season of
Codename: Kids Next Door

We knew the characters better.

We knew what kind of story

was best for each storyboard artist.

We knew we had a gihoogic world to explore.

Visually,

the character's line weight got thinner.

The backgrounds got more elaborate.

And the 2x4 tech got more intricate.

In season one I insisted that there 

be no stories 

about

SCHOOL

and no stories about

HOME.

But for season two we wanted a 

theme to work around.

So we decided to explore

FAMILY.

We met:

CREE

MONTY UNO

and

HOAGIE'S GRANDMA

and saw a bit

of where the KND lived

when not in the

Treehouse

or on a mission.

It was an inspiring season.
And I already gave some fun facts over
HERE.

But here,

from each episode of the
first half of

Fun Fact:

While voice actor Jeff Bennet was recording 

dialogue for Mr. Boss during first season,

he absent-mindedly started doing 

a Ricardo Montalban

impression.

I immediately knew we had to use that for

SOMETHING

down the line.

Count Spankulot 

was originally called

Count Spankula

but an internet search for that name

brought up some

VERY

VERY

not safe for kids stuff.

dance sequence 

made many a shipper's

Fun Fact:

I think this was the first episode I was

 really and truly proud of writing.

It was funny, racy,

action-packed and

showed the boys as silly, naive kids.

Everything I wanted the show to be!

Shockingly,

Cartoon Network had virtually

NO NOTES

regarding a story about boys wearing bras.

Fun Fact:

After only a season and a quarter we didn't have 

nearly enough villains to fill a theatre.

So the design department 

turned many of the crew into villains.  

I'm in the top right corner

with Mo on the other side looking kind of

Sheepish.

17B: Operation: FAST-FOOD

Fun Fact:

We often made life difficult for our 

overseas animation studio,

Rough Draft, 

by designing ships like the

C.A.S.U.A.L.

Designs like that are hard to rotate in

 traditional hand-drawn animation.

These days it would be built as a 

3-D model and rotated with ease!

This episode happened because 

I wanted to re-create

Dueling Banjos

WITH TUBAS!

I have no idea why.

For this episode's story pitch I actually rough boarded 

out the opening raid sequence and played the beginning of

this song

to set the mood.

I think the fan favorite choice for the 

Fourth Flavor 

is

banana.

But the core idea is that it's a flavor you've

NEVER EVER TASTED.

imagine a 

COLOR

that no one has never ever seen.

In other news,

Guy Moore absolutely KILLED

this storyboard.

Still one of his best.

As I mentioned

HERE,

we had to un-scarify this episode a couple times.

But we also had to tone down the opening

since it was all about the actual death

of a hamster.
