KND STORYBOARD PAGES (season three part 2)

Well well well...
look who it is!
You couldn't stay away from
these original
storyboard panels from
the second half of
season three
of
Codename: Kids Next Door,
couldja?
And
rightfully so.
They're
really
purdy!
Check 'em out:

33B: Operation: PINK-EYE
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Matt Peters

First appearance of
DETECTIVE HOAGIE

Fun Fact:
I told you how this
story came about over
But I didn't tell you that a little while
after Mo ran off to actually write the story,
he strolled into my office to tell me that he was
doing it in a film noir detective style.
I gave an interested nod.
Alright.

The he pitched it and I shouted,

ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!

Add in some puntastic Matt Peters
storyboarding and
detective Hoagie was born!

34A: Operation: LOCKDOWN
Writer: Mr. Warburton
Storyboard: Maurice Fontenot

Fun Fact:
Nobody drew
Count Spankulot
better and funnier than
Mr. Fontenot!
So whenever a spanktastic episode
came up it got pushed into his rotation.

Bonus Fun Fact:
It's only right that
the vampire KND
got made into toys:

34B: Operation: CAKED-THREE
Writer: Billy Aronson
Storyboard: Guy Moore

Fun Fact:
Our awesome overseas studio
Rough Draft
was more than a
little annoyed at us for
sending a show
with a billion
little birdies that needed to be animated.
But they didn't
"cheep"
out on the
animation!

(thank you... i'll be here all week)

35A: HUGS
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Kim Arndt

Fun Fact:
Moms dislike the word
STUPID.
Which this episode pushed the limits on.
Then one day,
while giving a studio tour to a young fan and his mom,
this happened:

Mom: Jimmy, tell Mr. Warburton what words we
don't like in his show.

Jimmy:  Shut up. Stupid. And F*ck.

For just one milli-second
my mind raced through every single episode trying to think
when someone said
THAT.
Which,
of course,
no one ever did.

Mom: I don't think they ever said that last one, Jimmy.

Jimmy:  YEAH, THEY DID!

Mom : Um... no.

Mom (to me) His father says that a lot.

35B: Operation: JEWELS
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Matt Peters

First Appearance of
HEINRICH VON MARZIPAN

Fun Fact:
This episode was made into a coloring book!

You can get one here:

36A: Operation: GRADUATES (part 1)
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Guy Moore

First appearance of
THE TOMMY

FUN FACT:
I loved the idea of
Tommy
(aka Numbuh T)
finally becoming a
Kids Next Door operative!
But then he has to make a
decision that throws it all away.
That's a
HERO
and a
story worth telling!

36B: Operation: GRADUATES (part 2)
Writer: Mr. Warburton
Storyboard: Maurice Fontenot

Fun Fact:
There was a ton of discussion
over what kind of animal each
KND operative would turn into.
I'm surprised
we got away with the
"well, that figures"
reference to
Numbuh 86
turning into a female dog.

Bonus Fun Fact:
This episode was
ALSO
made into a coloring book!

37A: Operation: TRICKY
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Kim Arndt

Fun Fact:
Cartoon Network asked us to make a Halloween episode.
And I still find it
AMAZING
that when you're
ASKED
to make a specific kind of episode
your mind goes completely blank.
Mo and I played with a
THOUSAND
different ideas
before coming up with this one.

37B: Operation: UNCOOL
Writer: Mr. Warburton
Storyboard: Matt Peters

Fun Fact:
I once read an article about
a couple of grown men getting caught
ripping each other off in a
Pokemon Trading Card
scam and thought it was so hysterical
I had to make an episode like that.
I also loved the idea of
everyone thinking Numbuh Two wanted to rescue a girl
when it was really just a trading card.

38A: Operation: BUTT
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Maurice Fontenot

First appearance of
ROBO-BRADLEY!

Fun Fact:
This episode actually came to me in a dream.
I was at my
for the weekend,
taking a nap in the hammock while desperate for a story idea.
I had a dream that I was some kind of animal running through the grass.
I came to a road.
Looked one way.
Than the other.
Ran to cross and--

WHAM!

Just like the beginning of this episode.

38: Operation: PRESIDENT
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Guy Moore

First appearance of
PRESIDENT JIMMY

Fun Fact:
Look at the above two storyboard panels.
They're a perfect example of a great
A/B POSE,
something which
Guy Moore
is a master at.
For animation to really pack a punch
(in this case, literally)
your key poses need to be really strong and distinct.
Look how far Jimmy has that phone cocked back!
(the A pose)
And then look at the extension of his arm when he punches forward!
(the B pose)
Both have awesome silhouettes!
(imagine the pose completely filled in with black--
if you can still tell what's happening,
then that's a great pose and the animation will read well!)

39A: Operation: HOUND
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Kim Arndt

Fun Fact:
Kids Next Door was about
making kid's problems
REAL.
We've all heard about the
"dog eating my homework"
so we decided to make an
episode where the dog
eating your homework is
an actually an evil plot by the
honor students!

39B: Operation: SPROUT
Writer: Mo Willems
Storyboard: Matt Peters

Fun Fact:
I wish I had the storyboard panels of
the ITSY-BITSY coming out of
Numbuh Four's nose.
Matt Peters'
drawings were
HYSTERICALLY
gross!

Wow!
We're already
halfway
through
the
storyboards!

Season Four
is coming up next!

And as always,
feel free to go back
and check out
the previous seasons:

  1. I know I have one of those coloring books and Operation: H.O.W. T.O. D.R.A.W.

  2. Um Mr.Warburton, I think robo Bradley's first appearance was hospital, not butt, haha, which was a pretty wild episode in its own right, I always get a laugh out of Nigel's rainbow monkey undies!

  3. The last part of Season 3 introduced several of my most favorite KND characters - Heinrich Von Marzipan, and also President Jimmy (though technically his first appearance was in Operation: R.O.B.B.E.R.S.) and Anna Worthington (those two are such cool, but sadly extremely underrated, characters). :D
