MORE KND FACTS OF FUNOSITY!

The Codename: Kids Next Door episodes continue to thunder down the tracks of Cartoon Network this week!

With four episodes running a day (from 4:00pm to 5:00), we're blitzing through the seasons, aren't we?
This week we're rockin' the rest of season three with just a smattering of season four to whet yer whistle for next week. It took us YEARS to get through these when they first aired... so all you newcomers should consider yourself sooper triple lucky
(or late).

So what do this week's episodes bring?

CHAD WEARS A BRA!
VAMPIRE KND!
A KING KONG-SIZED RAINBOW MONKEY!
NERD ZOMBIES!
BRADLEY BECOMES A CYBORG!
HOMEWORK EATING WEREWOLVES!
THE TOILETERMINATOR!

And that's not all... new characters aboundedededed:

THE CANDY OBSESSED HEINRICH VON MARZIPAN!
A TON OF NEW KND OPERATIVES!
NUMBUH THREE'S PARENTS!
NURSE CLAIBORNE!
VALERIE!

So before you watch this week's eps... let me fill you in on some semi-useless trivia:

Operation: ARCHIVE - After seeing the SECOND RENAISSANCE in the ANIMATRIX I was blown away by Mahiro Maeda's story. I was just... WOW! It's really an incredibly cool, brilliantly imagined and terrifying piece of work.

So why not make it into a kids film?!

If man made machine and then machines rebelled... why not flip it to adults making kids and then kids rebelling? That's what KND is all about, right?

I think this is one of the episodes I'm most proud of... but I'm not really allowed to be too proud since it's basically a shot for shot rip off (um... borrowing?) of The Second Renaissance. Basically I get two reactions to this episode. It's either people who appreciate the homage... or those who've never seen the original and then look disappointed when I tell them I can't take credit for it.
Regardless... the joke about the adult city being called Cleveland gets a laugh EVERY time.

OPERATION: PINK EYE - In my office we had a wall where we'd write loose story nuggets... things like Peanut Butter and Jelly, Mumps, Children of the Corn Dogs, etc. We called it 'Purgastory' and a couple times a week Mo and I would grab a couple of those ideas, go to lunch, and try to 'break' them. This was one of my favorite exchanges:

Me: Okay, what can we do with pink eye?
Mo: Well, why would adults want to give kids pink eye?
Me: Um... To harvest the crust? But what would they be harvesting it FOR?!
Mo: Topping for apple cobbler!
Me and Mo: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!

Right then and there we knew we had a story.
But my wife thought this episode was so gross she punched me.

Operation: PRESIDENT - Allegedly the very first show on Cartoon Network to be allowed to use the word FART. Now THAT'S something to write home about!

Operation: RABBIT - I swear that I had NEVER seen Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom when I wrote this one. Totally swear... just... not under oath or nothin'. Okay?
As usual, storyboard overlord Guy Moore goes above and beyond the call of awesomeness on this one.

Operation: FLUSH - We really wanted to give the hapless Toiletnator an episode to win a battle. We also just wanted another excuse to have Maurice Fontenot draw him.

Operation: FOODFIGHT - Heavy metal mayhem! I wanted to do this episode in season two, but the band I asked to borrow the music from couldn't find the masters... so they eventually decided to actually RE-RECORD the songs just for us!
The voice record almost killed Gramma Stuffum actress Grey Delisle (I sent her flowers) and the almost 500 page storyboard almost caused the normally unkillable storyboard artist Kim Arndt to kill me (I bought her a sushi dinner).

Operation: CLUES - Brilliant (and hysterical) film noiry writing by Mo and hysterical (and brilliant) storyboarding my Matt Peters. I think the decision to hire a live action 300lb Samoan guy to play a little cartoon Asian girl was possibly one of the most genius things we ever did.

And that's it for this week! Hope you enjoy watching this batch!

Even though PINKEYE was the absolute highest ranking episodes on the grossness factor: it is still one of my favorites because of the oh-so friendly interaction between Hoagie and "Toots". I also LUV the references to the old time Humprey Bogart detective movies and the sick and twisted plot of the nefarious Nurse Claibourne. And yes I also noticed that KND is nefarious for breaking the rules on whats allowed on Cartoon Network! ROCK ON!

500 pages for an 11-minute cartoon!? I would have almost killed you too. XD

yeah... because FOOTFITE was set to music there had to be a LOT of poses to hit the beats. it was practically animated! i DID draw up a sooper ugly rough thumbnail board as a guide for kim... which kinda helped... but it was still a massive project for her. regardless, she rose to the occasion and kicked 1000 acres of butt. i don't think i know a more indestructible storyboard artist.

Wow! Im so glad I found this site! Ive always known about Codename: Kids Next Door, but never really watched it until about 3 weeks ago. In a single day it became my favorite show. Now I make sure to watch all te episodes every single time their on and neglect everything I need to do until they're over. My favorite episodes are the ones about the entire KND working together like in Operation G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S. Im so sand that I only got to see half of Operation E.N.D. today. Curse you lunchtime at 12:00 central time!

I was kind of freaked out when I saw Operation F.O.O.D.F.I.T.E. yesterday. I really didnt expect a heavy metal music video with the KND. I love the music though, and the fight was EPIC!!!!!
