ANOTHER SKETCHBOOK GOES BOOM!!!

Another buncha months,

another sketchbook blown up.

This one

bore the crest of Sanji:

It took many moons,

specifically

November 4th, 2012

to

March 22, 2013.

With each new sketchbook I try

to set some rules to get me out of

my usual habits.

For this one I decided:

NO FISH OR GIANT SQUID!

(i always draw fish and giant squid)

NO PLANT CREATURES!

(I always draw plant creatures)

And that I'd start every page with 

some kind of

CHARACTER.

Here are a couple examples:

(with the help of one of my goblins)

Hot wings:

Turtles:

And when

Shonen Jump

sends exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh cards,

I put 'em in the ol' sketchbook

since I don't play

that:

And then it was done...

And up on the shelf!

Dang boy!

I'm runnin' out of room!

After countless attempts,

KND operatives

have infiltrated the central server matrix of

NETFLIX

and uploaded virtually

That means

Samurai Jack

and 

most

importantly:

are up.

But while you're waiting for

So you know when you're watching 

FISH HOOKS

and you hear certain sounds?

Like footsteps on crunchy gravel.

Or sheets of paper being waved around.

Or a teapot being placed on a table.

Actually,

you probably 

DON'T 

notice 

because they're 

ambient sounds that 

SHOULDN'T

grab your attention.

That's the work of a

FOLEY ARTIST.

Now,

Foley is different from

SOUND EFFECTS.

Foley 

is natural, ambient sound while

sound effects are a caricature of the environment.

For example,

putting in a chicken squawk

when Milo

has a surprised reaction.

Or

creating juuuuust the right laser sound 

for a 600 foot robot.

These kind of SFX 

are masterfully done for 

Fish Hooks 

by 

Jesse Aruda 

and 

Glenn Oyabe.

But our 

Foley work is rocked

by a guy named

J. Lapinen:

And how does he make all these sounds?

With 

a

BIG

GIANT

ROOM

FULL

OF

Cellophane creates crackling fire effects!

An old chair makes a controllable creaking sound!

A pair of gloves sounds like bird wings flapping!

To be honest,

I only found out this room existed at

Advantage Audio

a couple weeks ago!

But when I found it 

I just 

HAD

to tell you about it!

Cool, right?

So last weekend

I went to see this guy:

Who was with this guy:

Because they were doing this:

We brought some books for them to sign:

And hung out a while.

Both Kazu and James rock 

pretty hard so it was worth the drive to

see them!

As an added bonus,

the gallery had a sooper cool
