PICTURE THIS AT FEDERAL BAR FUNDRAISER RECAP!

Perhaps you've heard that every
Tuesday and Thursday morning,
bright and early,
I swim laps at our local
YMCA.

So when they asked me to help
out for a fundraiser I was all like,
BLURBLE BLUGGA BLUB BLUB!

Then I got out of the water and said,
"Heck, yeah!"

The event was at the Federal Bar in
North Hollywood,
which has an awesome upstairs party space.

And what were they using that space for?

Picture This! is a live comedy show with stand-ups, voice actors
and more performing while they are drawn live
by some of the best animators, cartoonists,
and other artists in the biz! The comedians don’t know what
the animators are drawing and the animators don’t know how the comedians will react.
It may be weird.
It may different.
But it will be FUNNY!

We got a great crowd:

And a great line-up!

I was lucky to be teamed with
who is really funny
and a really nice guy!

I met some awesome artists like
and
Here they are warming up.

was
KILLING IT
on the Wacom tablet,
drawing really funny stuff on the fly while
was on stage making the audience laugh.

Jenni D Fine
was on point with her drawing,
totally making
already hilarious routine
at least 573% hilariouser!

Katie Prescott was drawing for her sister Julia
and both had the crowd howling.
(Their Mom Suzanne works at Disney and rocks pretty hard)

And
ALWAYS
makes me laugh.
So you know he was gonna make the
audience crack up when he
went to bat.

Here he is in action:

Mr. Lyon and I waited patiently for our turn...

And then it was time for us to go on.

I think we did okay
for a coupla rookies.

I would have preferred a Cintiq over a Wacom,
but ya get what ya get and ya don't get upset,
amiright?

Such a fun night!
Get on out to a
event
if you can!

IT'S A WRAP, 7D-STYLE

Just before the New Year
we were told that
The 7D
was going to finish up after it's
second season.

And once a production starts winding down,
there's a slow and steady procession of folks leaving.
First it's the writers.
Then the storyboard artists.
Then design starts disappearing.
And some production folk.
Etc etc etc...

Eventually all that remains is a handful of
post production ninjas
(like me)
who ride the train until the bitter end.
In our case, that's September 2016.

But it'd be silly to have the wrap party then.
Most people will be on new and exciting projects
and not even remember
working on
The 7D.

So last Wednesday,
production manager
Jennifer Nelson
and her merry band of
production elves
threw a killer party!

There were handmade party favors:

And treats:

And almost
EVERYONE
that ever worked on the show
was there!

Here's me with
killer voice actor
Kevin Michael Richardson (Happy)
and sooper awesome designer David DePasquale:

That's
Executive Producer
Tom Ruegger
in the middle there!

And here's the card everyone signed for him:

And here I am sandwiched between
Stephen Stanton (Sleepy)
and
Dee Bradley Baker (Numbuh Four)
I mean... Dopey!

Of course,
Mr. Ruegger
gave a great speech to the crew:

One of the most fun moments of the night was a staged
reading of some of the 7D's favorite lines:

Here's a piece of it:

=

And a signed script:

And what's a party without a photo booth?
Here's me and my
post production team,
Frame Slashin' Samurai
Brad Rozman
and
Rookie Sensation Retake Rocker
Val Petrone

And don't worry 7D fans.
Even though production is winding down,
there's still a lot more 7D coming!
We're only halfway through post production!

SPECIAL BONUS!

After
SIXTY TWO YEARS
in the animation industry,
timing director
Joanna Romersa
is retiring with The 7D as the last production
to be blessed with her presence.
(Her first job was doing ink and paint on Lady and the Tramp!)

She is uncannily young,
both physically and mentally...
Whip smart...
Superbly talented...
A joy to be around...
And most likely a vampire.

Big love to Joanna
and to this drawing of her by
series director
Alfred Gimeno:

TILT BRUSH

Guys!
I just totally did the future!

And
OH EM GEE!

I got to do it when the folks at
Disney Interactive
were dumb enough to
leave their door open.

That's when I snuck in and said,
"Hey!  What're you guys doing?"

They groaned and tried to get me to leave,
but I'm annoyingly persistent.
So to keep me out of their hair,
they strapped a virtual reality helmet on my head
and fired this up :

AND MY HEAD EXPLODED!

There's nothing I can say or write that
can explain the experience

It's like a virtual reality
Photoshop.

You're in a virtual room
drawing on air.

I was jumping up and down,
laughing and shouting how
THIS!
CHANGES!
EVERYTHING!

But don't take my word for it.
Listen to animation legend
Glen Keane:

I wish everyone could try this.
The applications are endless.

There's a cool new world coming.
And I can't wait to draw on it!

D.G.A. JELLY JEH JOHNSON

I don't do a whole lot of

A couple years ago
I got this
Necromancer
statue
as a gift for
because I'm the best friend in the world.

And I think I once got some sunglasses
that were okay.

But last week I received my

The boys have been asking for a fish for a while.
So I thought this would be a fun way to do it.

It's a planter
AND
a fish tank!

So we got it set up and went to get our Betta.
And everyone knows the most
IMPORTANT
part of having a pet is
NAMING IT.

And my woodchucks are experts
at naming stuff.

So please meet

D.G.A
Jelly
Jeh Johnson!

D.G.A
stands for
Don't Get Attached.

Because,
you know,
fish.

And Kelley just wanted
part of the fish's name to be
Jelly.

And this is
Jeh Johnson

He's the current
United States Secretary
of
Homeland Security.
(like, duh)

While waiting in line for security at the Atlanta airport,
he was on all the TV screens over and over again.
The boys thought his name was the best thing in the world.

So yeah...

Now we just have to wait for the plant to grow!

G:KND-- ONE YEAR LATER

It was one year ago today
that we launched the
grand experiment that was the
Galactic: Kids Next Door.

We wrote a story.

We drew a storyboard
(well, guy moore did)

Recorded voices
(well, david guerrero and the voice actors did)

An animatic
(well, Dave Courter did)

Made new music and SFX
(steve rucker and lou esposito did it)

(rob eberhardt did that)

We got hacked.

And then made ANOTHER animatic.

And all the while the G:KND hype train
ran rampant, threatening to crush us all in its wake.

Man, that was
FUN!

Unfortunately,
Cartoon Network
wasn't interested.

Which is a shame.
Because there are lots of stories to tell
in the G:KND universe.

And since it's been so long,
I thought I'd let slip a bit more of that universe.

Or at least one of my favorite characters.

Meet Numbuh 9L.
one of Numbuh One's
teammates in the G:KND.

She becomes very protective of Numbuh One
as her planet was destroyed by the
G:KND after it was completely overrun by adulthood.

She's huge.
She has two tails.
And a lot of cool weapons.
And that's all I'm sayin'.

So let the fan art begin!

And if by some chance you're new to what happened,
you can read about it

And thanks to everyone that's
STILL
signing the
that Trevor Isaacs started last year.

I don't know if it means anything to Cartoon Network.
But 70.5 THOUSAND
signatures is pretty awesome.
